HOPE Africa, in partnership with Batho Pele Healthcare, Youth Employment Service (YES) initiative and Johnson & Johnson, managed Community Health Workers (CHW) in Nkangala District to support the Mpumalanga Department of Health in providing quality primary healthcare services.
How we help.
Programme Features
The overall goal of Project Nomzamo was to actively support the National Department of Health’s efforts in Primary Healthcare Re-engineering and increasing access to healthcare for all people living in South African. Unemployed Community Healthcare Workers (CHWs) between the ages of 18-35 were trained and provided with work opportunities to provide comprehensive primary health care services to their immediate communities in Nkangala District.
The Community Health Workers were linked to the eight (8) clinics in the Nkangala district: Empumelelweni, Poly, Hlalanikahle, Siphosensimbi, Ackerville, Lynville, Makometsane and Rhenosterkop.
CHWs successfully encouraged household members to take preventative health measures by checking their HIV status, STIs & TB scrrening, checking their blood pressure and sugar levels even if they are not feeling ill.
